The story of Harold, Johanna and bobtail Denver
Until 2004 we travelled all over the world, we were real globetrotters. In the same year we decided to expand our family with our first dog “Mickey”. Unfortunately, it is not so easy to discover the world with a dog and fly from one place to another. In our years of travelling we have visited Austria, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Norway and Sweden, among others. But only one country gave us a very special feeling, Austria, we immediately felt at home there. That is why we decided that Austria would become our new home. In this country, everything is in harmony with nature and the peace and quiet is especially given in the Oberpinzgau. Such a walk in the mountains only evoked ultimate feelings of happiness: Imagine walking through a picturesque side valley, beside you spring numerous waterfalls, cows graze and you hear the chirping of crickets and the whistling of marmots, nothing else. As you walk into the valley, the smell of freshly cut grass invades your nose and the sun warms your face. Your four-legged friend walks around with butterflies and can let off steam – it sounds perfect! If you think this is just a dream, visit us and we will show you that it becomes reality in the Stubachtal.
“We are Harold and Joke Jansen, from Ede in the Netherlands. We met in 1989 as colleagues at our local bank (Rabobank) in Ede. And like any good love story, it did not take forever for us to become a couple. We married in 1993 and until then I had never travelled or flown. Our honeymoon in Florida not only opened my eyes, but also opened a whole new world for me. When the plane landed, I saw the palm trees through the window. I fell in love with travelling, the world is just too beautiful. Harold always wanted to go out into the world and emigrate, but I, on the other hand, did not want to leave my parents behind. When my mother died in 1999, I could not or would not leave my father alone”.
“So the Netherlands remains our base. Until 2004, we travelled overseas regularly a few times a year. And every time we go to Austria with our dog Denver, we notice that cosy dog-friendly Ferienwohnungen with extra services are very hard to find. We also notice that we find the Netherlands so full by now. Nowadays you do not have a job for life anymore. All these things added up to the idea of offering dog(&)friendly Ferienwohnungen in Austria. We offer the dogs of our guests to take a walk with us, when their owners are not able to.
“As controller, Harold has the financial side of our dream well in hand. And I have been working as a self-employed person alongside my administrative job since 2005, selling a number of high-quality fresh meat foods for dogs and cats in Ede and the surrounding area”.
“In recent years, we have participated in various courses for running our guesthouse. These instructive hours have taught us that kindness and respect are particularly important to us and that these are the values we embody and with which we distinguish ourselves. Unfortunately, this is no longer taken for granted these days, even on holiday. And that, although a smile and mutual respect make life a little more pleasant for everyone”.
“That’s why dog (&)friendliness is at the heart of our Holiday homes. Our cosy and thematically furnished flats are ideal for people with dogs, whether they are families with children (12 years and over), couples or a group of friends, everyone is welcome here.
Our Alpenhaus offers a wide range of services for your perfect holiday, e.g. the walking service, a Stube (that’s a cosy room in Austria) with a jukebox, pool table and a sitting area with a big screen TV.
We want our guests to be able to relax immediately after their long journey and we make sure that the beds are made on arrival”.
